"Warmth AND Definition!" - Keith Horn
"I recently got my SVT back from the shop (after being there for MONTHS). I hadn't used it for quite some time before that, so I figured I'd give it a whirl. Tried it a couple of times, and just couldn't get what I wanted out of it. Played the same room with the TF and voila! There's my sound! AND I didn't have to go to a chiropracter the next day! I also used it on an upright gig last week (through a 1-12 cabinet) and it sounded great as usual. Steve Hodges (Tom Waits drummer) was on the gig and mentioned what a good sound I had through that tiny rig! Well okay! I think we're coming (Dick Dale) through your neck of woods soon. Let me know if you want to get your ears hurt..."
"It's amazing how tight my new TFB800-B2 stays at high volumes. I had the gain around 4 and it was LOUD... but a good, controlled loud. Huge bottom, but when I laid into a Low-B, it was just sick. The Thunderfunk is the ideal amp for any situation I can conceive of. All the warmth you could ever ask for, and if you want more the switch will give you that extra grit for rock. For jazz or blues or any roots style, it gives me a fat warm thick and yet at once tight and precise tone. For any slapping or tapping you may need, the enhance knob combined with just the most damn useable EQ can get you as clean and crisp as you want. And this is without even getting to the timbre knob...genius! A kind of global EQ combined with all the fine tuning. If you can't get a great tone with this amp, you need a different bass!"
Warner, contemplating the buzz surrounding his jazz/funk band, Miles Long. Having performed to packed houses on the LA club circuit, playing in several jazz festivals, and opening for high profile acts such as Earl Klugh and Luther Vandross, Warner has finally released the debut EP, "...the miles long mixtape.." Warner comfortably and convincingly leads his crew through several head- bobbing tunes with heavy bass grooves (electric and upright) and dynamic spoken word.
"I got to try my Thunderfunk amp out on Friday night. There wasn't much sound check time, and the room was really boomy, so I couldn't spend much time with listening to the sound thru my cabinets. I set the EQ flat and added a click or two on the bass and treble controls, sent my signal to the monitor board from the post EQ out and started sound check. Right away I heard my bass cleaner and sitting more perfectly in my in-ear mix than I ever had. The B-string was amazingly focused and clear. No mudding out as with my old amp's post EQ. The only adjustment I made all night was turning the timbre control a click to the left for a tad more fullness." After a week:"I'm loving the amp and the ease of operation is great. I actually got to crank it before soundcheck the other day and there's plenty of power, should I ever need it." P.S. "I sold my other amps!"
"Just to let you know I am REALLY pleased with the way these amps sound. In the short time I have had this amp I have already used it on the road, on sessions, and even a 5 hour show last night. TONE, TONE, and more TONE !!! You even got me to stop using my favorite SWR head I have used for years. This is rapidly becoming a crucial part of my signal chain."
"I tried the Thunderfunk with the SWR 4X10 Goliath cab on the Norman Brown Show in Fresno Saturday night. The Thunderfunk head blew my mind. Sweet highs, deep deep lows & nice powerful upper & lower mids. I can even get that Ampeg® or SWR® tone out of the same amp! Thunderfunk Sound & Tone is the Bomb!"
"Thanks again for the best amp I've ever owned. Has been making my Pedulla sound amazing on stage and in recordings for about 7 years now."
"I am very satisfied with my TFB800-B2! I just returned from a rehearsal in a difficult acoustic environment with a difficult-to-manage cabinet. The feature set of the TFB800-B2 enabled me to control a barky midrange (3 dB cut at 1kHz), add some bass punch (2 dB boost at 180 Hz) and manage dynamic range with your best-of-class compressor. From song-to-song, the Timbre control was my go-to control that quickly dialed in the perfect sound for the selection at hand.
I'm a pretty good bass player - I don't think anyone would deny that. But your amp is the proverbial "best-kept-secret" that makes my band members, booking agent and most-tellingly, my independent FOH engineers constantly tell me that I am the best-sounding bass player they work with. Thanks for making me Seattle's go-to guy for great sounding bass!"
"Folks, I received an AccuGroove Tri 110L bass cabinet today. This is an AWESOME li'l beast that packs quite a punch for its weight and size. Dave Funk's TBF550 550-watt head is the perfect driver for Mark's cabinet. The clarity and fundamental mojo is so striking. People, it's a pure joy to be alive and kicking with this combo from above! Paired with the Tri 210L cab I got a couple of weeks ago and you have this mini-stack that really moves some air. Such power in such a small package is almost unbelievable to grasp in 3D. Now I have a small, medium and large amp set up for performing with bass or electric cello. Be ye aMused."
"After "searching for the sound" for more than 35-years as a bass player in different bands I think I´ve finally found it. This is an amp that you can throw any bass at - whether it´s a custom Alembic, a fretless Rob Allen Mouse-bass or an obscure Lew Chase, the Thunderfunk amp will deliver an optimized sound. It brings out the true persona of each instrument! You just can´t fool it. The ease of handling is very much appreciated, too... intiutive is the word. I use it with Schroeder and Epifani-cabinets. No mistake there... and band-members that I´ve played with for 35 years have this comment, "Now ALL of your basses sound good," which makes me really happy! I believe that the best amp goes unnoticed - it should just let you express yourself; how your fingers work the strings is your sound. By the way...dialing in a solid double-bass sound is as easy. Thanx, Dave! Best regards from Sweden"
"Hi, I just want to chime in to say thank you for making this amp! It's just a high quality piece of gear that fits my needs perfectly. All the best from Norway."
"Ho-Ly-Sh!t! Dave, you make an amazing amp. I don't know if it is the modifications that you did and the slight power bump, or if it was just not hearing it for a week, but god damn! The amp sounds incredible! I really can't imagine something better."
"Ok so I've spent a couple days with the Thunderfunk amp. Wow, this thing sounds awesome! I have it running through my Schroeder 4x10 cabinet. All three of my basses - a Passive Fender, an Active Sadowsky Jazz Bass and a Passive Nash P-Bass sound incredible. I don't know how to describe it, I guess I'd call it Thick and Powerful. Sort of an all encompassing sound to it...really BIG. My other amps, an Ampeg SVT Classic and an Aguilar DB750, both very powerful amps, did not deliver this type of tone through the very same rig/basses. Great job man! And for only weighing 16lbs. - It doesn't get any better!! I'm really happy with it."
"Dave, You are the man!! I simply have never used a better amp PERIOD! The only amp I can compare yours to is the Aguilar DB 750, and let me tell you, for 1/3rd the weight and LESS money, your amp not only measures up, but in my opinion, is far more flexible! From the sweetest of modern tones, to nasty old school funk, your amp can do it all. The Enhance and Timbre knobs are PURE MAGIC man!! The Switch is a very nice feature that lets all the work I put into my technique really shine...The amp is a dream on stage BUT great in the studio as well, the amp runs so quiet that I did not even realize it was on more than once!! The DI is very stable, sounds great, and with the option to use the pre section to drive another amp, this beast can drive a virtually unlimited number of cabs! I'm hooked!! This is my third one and I am done on my quest for tone...Thunderfunk Amps mean I can get any tone I need NOW instead of wasting a lot of time looking for it. Put me down as your number 1 fan!! Thanks again for THE BEST amp out there!"
"I just purchased a Thunderfunk to play at a huge 4th of July show. It handled my low-B at a louder volume than my old amp. I was running the gain at 6 and master at 5, using a Roscoe LG-3005 bass. I must say that the Thunderfunk is the best amplifier I have ever used. I was outside in 95 degree weather playing to thousands of people at high volume and the Thunderfunk hung with me the whole way."
"Hello Dave, I just purchased my third example of your killer work! The above referenced 550B. The guy that I bought it from has the #2 effects loop in/out connected together with a 1 inch cable. He says that you recommended that as a quick fix until he could get it to you. Apparently, he never did so. I was wondering if you are still accepting amps for repair and upgrade? Please let me know if you are too backed up and I will wait until you suggest that I can send it. I will want you to give it an upgrade, if possible and practical. I have a 750 as my main amp but I would like to have the 550 as my backup. Are they upgradeable to a 600 or at least where I can drop it to 2 ohms, if necessary? Thanks SO Very Much for making the Best Bass Amps...... PERIOD! I look forward to hearing from you!"
"Thank you for making such a great bass amp! I have had the TFB750-A for the past few years and have put it through the ringer though the various tours. I've been on and it still performs perfectly. The amp is such high quality and sounds so great I find it hard imagining using anything else. I had originally bought the amp to suit the RnB and rap music I was doing but it has made a seamless transition to the country music I now play. I've used it with opening acts for Wynonna Judd, Randy Houser, Canaan Smith on the Jana Kramer tour, and getting to use it on stage this past week with Christian Bush (From SugarLand) was a real treat. Again, Thank you for making an awesome amp!"
"First, thanks for everything you put into your amplifiers. In between the lunch boxes built for novelty and the mega-tube monsters, Thunderfunk delivers premium sound at a very sensible weight. My ears (and chops) are not golden, and my needs are modest, but I know what I hear, and I appreciate your good work every time I plug in."
"I've still been enjoying gigging with the 750! I've used the amp on covers gigs, blues gigs, indie rock gigs, and more recently neo soul/fusion stuff and it simply delivers every time. Something I didn't realize during my first run with the amp (I had #2 until about 2010 or 2011) is how well it takes effects too. A lot of bassists are missing out, but it's okay, it just makes my sound stand out that much more. Thanks again for designing this great/functional amp and please keep me posted on any new products."
